Butterfly & Ribbon
‘Butterfly & Ribbon’ focuses on translated words in different languages. The Chinese character of ‘蝶 (butterfly)’, the structure of which consists of ‘⾍ (insect)’ and ‘枼 (leaf)’, perfectly demonstrates the identity and living environment of butterflies. The English character is made up of ‘butter’ and ‘fly’, which comes from folklore stories. Language expression varies across different cultures. Metaphorically, this work adopts the form of a butterfly in its visual language. Both the butterflies and ribbons indicate generosity, beauty, sincerity and love, but also fragility and transience.
